Any chemical liquid has its properties when when measured with a spectrometer. When changes occur the product will not function anymore the way it was designed to work. These changes are then detected with the instrument and can be compared with the original solution. In lens dyes the chemical composition can be analyzed and compared with the resulting transmission charts of the tinted lens. If tinted lenses result in different colors or shades than the ones they should have been it is easy to analyze the original batch color and compare with the one the faulty color resulted. In the area of lens surface treatments a similar analyses can be performed to see if the product is still performing or if it is spoiled or outdated.
From every batch of chemicals manufactured samples are dated, numbered and stored for a period of a minimum of 12 month or 2 month over the shelf live of certain products. The CECIL spectrometer transmission charts are all printed with date and time when used and tests are made.
At OMS Optochemicals we had to develop and establish a new standard technology to establish lens dye quality control as there are no scientific standards available. The dyes are stored in their original formulation and then have to be adapted to be measured in liquid state by the spectrometer and compared to the original transmission charts.
If any product changes composition within the original batch stored at the OMS facility during this time, the warranty is to replace the product at no charge.
