The only product protecting the edges of polycarbonate optical lenses against chemical damage

  • No more cracked and crazed lens edges
  •
  • Fully protects against chemical infusion through the edges

No.............they have not changed the formula. Lens manufactures buy the material which is a standard product and inject it into a mold. The lens is the coated against scratching.

The scratch resistant coating also protects the poly surfaces also against the many materials that will make poly craze and crack. Many chemicals we encounter in our daily life will start a fast or slow reaction that will start a partial or full decomposition process and that can be as fumes in the air, or cleaners, or solvents of many kinds.

You should know that when cutting the lens into shape and size you end up with an un-protected area of the lens -------------> the edges.

The edges a totally un protected and subject to full attack by any chemicals floating around as fumes or liquids or solids and will react when in contact with those products.

I developed a coating material (polysiloxane) for other purposes a while back, that provides a total sealer against just about anything with the exception of HF.

We tested it on polycarbonate lens edges............and what a surprise..........We have a totally protected edge, resistant to any chemical attacks, and therefore a fully protected lens, with full protection against most aggressive chemicals..

As this coating is based on humidity cure, it will dry and cure at room temperature or you can accelerate it by holding over the steam coming from a hot water kettle and get it nice and wet. Therefore it will not need any machinery to apply and it can easily be applied by anybody in office.

How to Treat a Lens

Take a drop of the polymer on a Q-tip or paper tissues and spread it evenly around the edges. Make sure you fully cover the surface. Then wipe of any residue that went on surface of lens.

Let it cure for 30 minutes at room temperature, or hold over hot steam for one to two minutes to accelerate curing.

Then buff the edge with a fresh paper tissue until shiny and insert the lenses into the frame.
